Our Story

We used to tell people that we met at Rosemary's Greenpoint Tavern on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg—a notorious dive bar that has been a neighborhood staple for the last sixty years. But the truth is, we met on the internet (yes, it works!). Our real first date was at another dive, Frank's, “the best bar in Fort Greene,” where one of us was approximately 90 minutes late and the other was patient and thirsty enough to wait for the other.

Caitlin was finishing up a Masters in Media Studies at the New School, where Geoffrey had earned his undergraduate degree. Geoffrey was working in publishing, but was applying to social work school. What was pretty clear that night was that we found something we had both been looking for—an independent, loyal, kind, progressive, and hilarious partner. Later that night we ended up getting kicked out of the restaurant for making out—a Giuliani-era rule Bloomberg never got around to changing. And things just kept getting better (but not more well-behaved) from there.

Six months after dating—in true New York fashion—we moved in together. Henry Littleboots, Caitlin’s extremely handsome and personable cat from San Francisco, joined us in our new apartment, and we started to build our home.

We’ve weathered some rough patches together, from crappy jobs to graduate school salaries (just kidding, they don’t pay you to go to graduate school), and throughout all of it we managed to keep each other sane, safe, and loved. We also experienced the joys of becoming an aunt and uncle (twice!) as well as many weddings, trips, adventures, new jobs, and quiet, perfect nights at home. It was during these times that we truly became a family.

In the early fall 2012, we gave birth to a beautiful puppy girl. Frankie was a tiny little nugget of energy, and while Henry was not so pleased that his ears became chew toys, the rest of us were pretty stoked to have a new best friend.

Speaking of best friends, we consider ourselves extremely lucky to have the coolest, most creative, best looking friends in the universe. From the traditions we’ve built together, to the random hangouts we can count on, we believe that our family extends far beyond just the four of us (yes, we are including the dog and cat). We wouldn’t be us without you guys.

Though it was a bit of a joke at first, we mention Rosemary's Greenpoint Tavern for an important reason: as individuals, as a couple, and a family, we've watched New York, our neighborhood, and our lives change dramatically since we met. We've survived and thrived because of the resilience borne from our partnership, and our friends and family who have supported us.

We are so excited to share this truly special event with all of you.

The Plan

We are getting married at the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville, Connecticut. Interlaken is a large resort, with a restaurant, bar, spa, and various other charming amenities. The Inn is located a few hours from Boston, New York City, and Southern Connecticut.

The ceremony and reception will take place at the Inn, so we ask you to please call and book an overnight stay by June 15th 2014, as they are holding a room block for us until then.

All The Important Details

So wait, where is the wedding?

Our entire wedding celebration is taking place at The Interlaken Inn in Lakeville, CT, which is a nice 2 to 3 hour drive from New York and Boston, and a little over an hour from New Haven. It’s sort of like we’re all meeting in the middle.

We are looking forward to spending the weekend with you, and recommend you book a stay at the Interlaken Inn as soon as possible. Please call to reserve a room, and mention the Abber/Golia wedding. Their online booking system does not accommodate promotions, so in order to get the discounted rate, you must call and book over the phone.

How many nights should we book?

We would love to spend the whole weekend with you to ensure maximum fun and memories. Please check out the schedule of events. There is also a lot to do in and around Lakeville, from wine tasting to hiking (depending on the weather, of course). It’s also nice to just get away every now and again, right?

But of course, we totally understand if you can only make it Saturday!

Is this a kid-free wedding?

Children are welcome, but unfortunately we will not be offering babysitting on-site. If you’re bringing the kids, please let us know when you RSVP so we can order dinner for them.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is plenty of parking at the Inn.

What kind of dress should I wear?

We hope our wedding will feel like a fancy holiday party in the woods. Wear comfy shoes because there is going to be a lot of dancing.

Is this wedding Christmas-themed?

Themed? No. Influenced by? Yes.

Will Frankie & Henry be there?

In spirit!
